Matt Potenski, Shark Research Institute (SRI) marine biologist will lead the 2006 Kairos Company’s Whale shark expeditions in Tanzania on board M/V KAIROS.

Matt will be equipped with a teak spear gun and large casey-tag type anchor heads for both the satellite and visual ID tags to be set on Whale sharks identified in Tanzania in 2005. The study will also imply DNA sampling - especially from large females, so that we may be able to determine down the road if any offspring from these mother sharks enter the area. All of the collected data will be forwarded to SRI team in Princeton Institute, New Jersey, USA.

SRI thus strengthens its action in Tanzania in order to further study the exceptional Whale shark spot discovered last year by The Kairos Company in the southern part of Tanzania. The narrow cooperation set up between Tanzanian Marine Park Authorities, SRI and The Kairos Company, whose many types of equipment can be used by local and international scientists, contribute to the preservation of this wonderful sanctuary.

About The Kairos Company Ltd. http://www.TheKairosCompany.com/

The Kairos Company Ltd. was born following the meeting of specialists in fields as diverse as Africa, shipping, commercial diving and underwater filming. The setting up of this company was marked with the spirit of the great underwater TV documentaries that have imprinted on our memories over the past decades. Today, the wish of the spectator to take an active part in such unforgettable and wonderful expeditions, usually organized for scientists, researchers, or TV reporters, has become a reality for all sea lovers.

The concept is to organise four expeditions a year, for a two or three months period each, with the help of an expedition leader and a highly qualified crew. Each expedition is divided into periods of 10 days, enabling divers to team up with specialists, scientists and professional divers. The Kairos Company uses a real oceanographic research vessel, (36m - 12 passengers) and a large set of professional devices (Sony PD150 DVCAM, 200w HMI spotlights, rebreathers, facial masks, underwater communication system, scooters, Nitrox, Trimix,...) as well as a motorized hand glider for the reconnaissance of the objectives.
